RMC designed the new Cordata Park Pavilion as Phase Two of the City of Bellingham’s Cordata Park Master Plan. The rentable 1,100 sf pavilion seats up to 72 guests and has a full kitchen, restroom, and trellised patio. The project supports community-based events and gatherings. The project also includes an adjacent picnic shelter, a basketball court, four pickleball courts, and additional parking in this southern portion of the park.
Sited to take advantage of the wetland views, the pavilion was designed to accommodate solar panels in the future and to meet LEED equivalent standards. The pavilion opens directly to the patio, which extends the space’s capacity.
The City of Bellingham purchased the property for Cordata Park in 2015. A robust public planning process occurred to develop the master plan to best meet the needs of the northern neighborhood within the city. In conjunction with Phase One project prime consultant, RWD Landscape Architects, RMC designed the picnic shelter, maintenance building, and restroom building. Phase One also included a splash pad, parkour area, pump track, playground, parking lot, and the development of approximately 4,000 linear feet of trails around enhanced wetland areas.
