Mt. Baker Apartments provides affordable housing to residents in downtown Bellingham. Working with Dawson Construction using a collaborative Integrated Design Process (IDP), the 1929 building now has upgraded security, electrical, and heating systems; a new elevator; remodeled units; a new roof; and a listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
With the early coordination and collaboration of IDP, the team achieved the goals of upgrading the building while securing historic registration, which unlocked funds for the project. It also allowed work to proceed with tenants in place, helping the owner avoid costly relocation efforts.
