Season’s greetings friends!

We know neither rain nor sleet nor lack of parking will stop you from coming downtown this festive season. How could it? Not with all there is to do and enjoy, whether you’re here for a Charlie Brown Christmas at BAAY or magic at the Mt. Baker Theatre; shopping local (maybe at Ormalulu, the Bellingham Farmers Market or Fringe) sipping local (try Vinostrology, Camber, or The Local Public House) or treating yourself to a sweet (Pure Bliss Desserts, Icing on the Cake, or Antler Baking Co.), we offer four top tips to keep you in the gratitude mood.

  1. No complaints about parking! Would you rather the sidewalks and storefronts were empty? Put a hat on your head and some change in your pocket (better yet, stop procrastinating, download the app and park for free!) park once, and walk, just like you would at the mall. As the Herald reported recently, the distance from the middle of the Target parking lot at Bellis Fair to the middle of Macy’s is about 1,800 feet – the same distance you’d walk if you parked at the Parkade (ahem, the Commercial Street Garage) and put one foot in front of the other right on over to the Farmer’s Market.
  2. Appreciate the magic of great lighting – on the trees, the Herald sign, the Mt. Baker Theatre…
  3. Take a stroll by our windows for a poetic change of pace.
  4. Celebrate the solstice in community at the Commercial Street Holiday Night Market, next Friday December 21, from 6-10 pm. As if an “absolutely epic” new light tunnel is not enough, there are food trucks, firepits, artisan vendors, caroling..and reindeer.
