St. Andrew Parish sought to design a new Parish Hall at their Sumner, WA campus to accommodate a variety of church events and activities previously held in modular buildings. RMC led the master planning, cost studies, and parish engagement prior to design.
To maximize the limited budget, the new 9,400 sf Hall is replete with flexible, adaptable spaces that are used for receptions, after church activities, and basketball and volleyball for youth and adults. The building includes three meeting rooms, one of which supports the Parish choir and musicians; restrooms; storage; and a commercial kitchen. The large Hall serves 300 people and is designed to open to an adjacent, southside plaza during events, as well as for church processions during Lent.
The building’s exterior is designed to be compatible with the existing church, while deferring to its presence as the campus focal point. Warm wood accent details highlight key interior entrances. Tiling, integrated into the architecture in the common areas, was designed by parishioners to represent the heritage of the church’s large Hispanic population.
